Healing One Chronic Wound at a Time

Take control of sound healing by learning new strategies, tools and products that can accelerate healing and produce positive wound outcomes.

Master assessment skills and learn how to identify complications that are found with pressure, diabetic, venous, and arterial ulcers. Amp up your care plans with interventions to get these chronic wounds off your list!

Learning Objectives

• Differentiate characteristics of four common chronic wounds: pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, arterial ulcers, and neuropathic foot ulcers.

• Choose appropriate topical wound management products for four types of chronic wounds based upon wound characteristics, etiology, and goal of care.

• Identify interventions to implement based upon current standards of care for high-risk patients and patients with chronic wound complications.

Continuing Education

The Western Maryland Health System is accredited by MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Western Maryland Health System designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 6 MOC points [and patient safety MOC credit] in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

NURSE: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # 14094 for 6.0 contact hours. Certificate must be retained by the licensee for a period of 4 years after course completion.

PHYSICAL THERAPIST: The Wound Care Education Institute is an approved Physical Therapy Continuing Education Sponsor, License 216.00157 by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Certificate. Must be retained by the licensee for a period of 5 years after course completion.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST: The Wound Care Education Institute is an approved Occupational Therapy Continuing Education Sponsor, License number 224.000140 by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Certificate must be retained by the licensee for a period of 5 years after course completion.

TRAUMA: 5.75 hours of credit will be awarded by WMHS Trauma Services.
